There’s a scene in ‘Joyeux Noel’…
Where a German woman reunites with her love from before the war. She wants to hug him, but he warns her that he has lice. In a romantic moment, she immediately doesn’t hesitate to embrace him. The message is, of course, that lice or not, she loves him.
The film continues not to make a big deal out of it, but I’d have rather liked a scene where she notices “Oh crap, I got them from him.”
It’s nice to be romantic and have a romantic scene, but let’s not play down how bad lice are, despite that they were so common in the trenches.
2 cents.
