I hold to the thought that he’s actually a decent actor, but the material he had to work with was complete garbage and he did the best he could. 

I mean seriously, the script is horrible. None of the actors did well out of it. We know Ewan McGregor can be awesome, and we know Natalie Portman can be awesome. In fact, we also know Samuel L. Jackson, Christopher Lee and Liam Neeson can give us powerful performances, but in these films all of them have such forgettable characters. 

But ooh, you would enjoy this.
