Some are common manifestations: an appreciation of wine, of food, of travel.
Some aren’t so common.
My dad had a phone interview today. He’s not sure it went well, and of course I hope for the best for him.
He practiced with himself a lot though. He wanted to make sure he was communicating clearly, getting his pronunciation right, things like that.
It occurred to me that after just 2 years of working at a Front Desk at a service-oriented hotel, I never have to worry about that. I became a good salesperson, problem-resolver, and communicator. I have no problem trying to sell myself in interviews, cover letters, or anything.
After all, I’ve talked kids out of fornicating on the premises, talked crazy ladies out of doing crazy things, talked my colleagues into working just that little bit longer, talked people into paying more than they had to, and well… Once you’ve been through enough things and talked your way out of a lot of them…
Yeah. You get good at it.

you are a scary, scary man. you are like two steps away from being a gangsta leader. ‘cos if you ever chose that route, next thing ya know, “i’ve talked kids into trying marijuana. i’ve talked crackheads out of shooting me for crack i don’t have. “
