gedenkenbrauchtwissen: demons: The men who raised the second flag over Iwo Jima. I don’t know if this is true for all of them, but for those who were buried in Arlington, they have a special plaque of commemoration on the back of their headstones. Thank you sirs, for coincidentally doing something very routine in what turned out to be a very popular photo… I’m sure they had other achievements in their time of service, maybe. It just strikes me as ironic that their role in raising war bonds entirely out of coincidence overshadowed everything else.
