Observations of a Global Nomad, After trying out different professions of the...
After trying out different professions of the eight available in Guild Wars 2, I’ve settled on my Human Mesmer to be more or less my main character.
I’ve expressed before my sympathy for the human cause in the game. Helping them survive in a world where they have seen serious decline is oddly motivating.
The Mesmer is a profession that’s unique to the Guild Wars setting. You won’t see it in any other role playing game, or even any fantasy setting that I know of. There are two other spell-casting classes, Elementalist and Necromancer, which are fairly obvious. The Elementalists deal with fire, water, air and earth, the Necromancers with death and zombies.
The Mesmers in the first Guild Wars dealt in what we in the gaming world call debuffs. These are negative effects on enemies which occur over time. They steal energy, turn their enemies’ attacks against them, sap their will, create illusions, and make a nuisance of themselves.
It’s a fun, but difficult class to play in GW1. GW2 makes it possible to solo while using this class.
But check out the design. Mesmers are just the classiest.
