Observations of a Global Nomad, I’m in Biel to help my dad move some stuff from...

I’m in Biel to help my dad move some stuff from here to home. It’s mostly stuff from our old restaurant for the new restaurant, presuming they get the lot.

My dad cooked, which was pretty cool. He talked on Skype with my mom, and wanted to mention that we’d had a nice dinner.

My mom reacted badly. “Oh, our son is overweight, I know you like to eat but you have to help him lose weight, you have to encourage him to exercise, I’m so worried about his health.”

She continued with “Oh, he wants to get a girlfriend, but it’s a superficial world out there, he’s not going to get one while he’s still overweight!”

Oh my mother.

You know, my parents have an entirely uncanny knack for saying these things RIGHT when I start feeling good about eating habits or exercise routines. It’s just right when I think I’m making a difference that they make me feel like it’s fruitless.

Also, what makes her think she knows what modern women want?
